While I understand that the issue of gender equality, and the need for an ‘International Day of the Girl Child’ is far bigger than country music, we have to start somewhere. Women in country have been a minority for a while now in terms of recognition. You could probably think of plenty of amazing female country artists… but are any of them up for CMA entertainer of the year? Are any of them knocking men off the hot spots in country radio? Are many of them recognised for their songwriting? I’ll let you answer those questions for yourself.
