It’s always a pleasure to review a single from a new UK country artist, but particularly when it’s a song that you can’t get out of your head. Perfect for the summer and for festival season, ‘Jackie D’ by rising pop-country artist Binky, is as wild and bubbly as the artist herself.
As country music in the UK is only growing, this seems the perfect time for a catchy pop-country song from London born talent. With a look of Miranda Lambert meets Kelsea Ballerini, and a sound like RaeLynn meets Elle King, Binky is sure to be a hit in the UK country scene. Her new single should appeal to fans of all four of the artists above and more.
This single, like her previous single ‘Fireflies’ offers a British take on country that sets her apart from other artists such as The Shires and hopefully she will be just as successful. Binky began her career as a presenter on Sky TV’s The Smith & Rogers Country Show, in which she performed regularly showing her potential as an artist, since then she has been focusing on her true passion – music.
Binky’s debut single ‘Fireflies’, released last year, has surpassed 150,000 streams on Spotify, and nearly 8,000 views on YouTube. Now the singer is back with ‘Jackie D’ is a foot-stomping anthem that meets country and pop right in the middle, with a western twang and a catchy pop beat without losing her British sound.
‘Jackie D’ tells a story of a girl done wrong by a guy – typically country in theme, particularly as it starts ‘Hey Y’all’ – and this girl is not to be messed with, the song and video are all about girl power – always good to hear in country music. The chorus is infectious, I find myself singing it all the time and I really think this song could be a hit.
“My journey has been a whirl wind from the start and has been so much more than I ever thought it would be. I have been given the chance of a life time and I can’t express how blessed I feel. This started as a seemingly impossible dream, that dream is now slowly feeling as though it could come true. I can see my goal peering through the clouds. Wherever my future is destined, I will never forget this journey and the people I have met along the way, no matter what lies at the end of the road”.
