The sun, the heat, the dead yellow landscape.. it’s been YEARS but the UK finally got a summer we can brag about. However you’re spending your summer, road tripping, sitting out BBQing, celebrating the end of school/uni/work, what better than some fresh new country music as a soundtrack. There’s some songs that just give off those summery vibes, so I’ve picked out my Top 10 country songs you should be listening to this summer from my longer summer playlist, linked below.
RaeLynn – Tailgate
Sick of seeing playlists with only male artists so kicking this one off with some girl power. As soon as I heard this song I knew it belonged on this playlist. RaeLynn is the best for catchy, relatable, pop country hits and this song is no exception. I’m obsessed.
Ward Thomas – Lie Like Me
It’s been two years since Ward Thomas released album Cartwheels and now they’re back and better than ever! In ‘Lie Like Me’, the duo sing about the way we lie to portray ourselves in a better light on social media, when we should just be real. A sentiment I’m sure we can all get on board with.
Kacey Musgraves – Love Is A Wild Thing
Nothing like a Kacey Musgraves love song to start your summer off right. The comparison of love to flowers, water, nature – perfect for summer walks. The whole Golden Hour album has a summer vibe, upbeat and beautiful, lyrically and musically.
Russell Dickerson – Blue Tacoma
Is there anything more summery than driving a Blue Tacoma in California with rays of gold shining on ya? The perfect song to belt out on down those country roads on a summer evening where you can dream of being in The States ❤️
Catherine McGrath – Lost in the Middle
I’m obsessed with this one by rising country artist Catherine McGrath. It describes this summer and this playlist perfectly, nothing better than getting lost in the middle of a country song!
Dan + Shay – Island Time
Even if it doesn’t look like summer outside, (which is often the case over here) this sexy song by Dan + Shay can help you imagine as their dreamy harmonies show that you can make your own summer.
Luke Bryan – Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset
Perhaps a little cliché to feature this one, but Luke Bryan kills it with the anthems every. single. time. Written by Maren Morris’ husband Ryan Hurd among others, the song plays out like a rom-com, a typical summer romance that a country boy could only dream of.
Danielle Bradbery & Thomas Rhett – Goodbye Summer
Fitting with the theme of a summer romance movie, “Goodbye Summer” is the perfect summer heartbreak story. I’m a huge fan of “Hello Summer”, but this reimagined version with Thomas Rhett is even more amazing.
Lukas Nelson & POTR feat. Madison Ryann Ward – Let Go of Your Plans
A reminder by Lukas Nelson that sometimes you just have to let go, and when better to do that than when the sun is shining and the beers are cold.
Sugarland feat. Taylor Swift – Babe
I think I’ll be putting this one in every playlist til the end of time. I just think Jennifer Nettles with Taylor Swift’s harmonies is one of the most perfect things ever.
Worthy of a mention – songs from the playlist that didn’t quite make my top 10 but deserve a mention cus they’re just as amazing.
