C2C Highlights

Bear with me while I recover from the weekend and cope with the fact C2C is over for another year. Before I post my reviews, here’s a list my Top 10 best things at C2C 2018, not necessarily in order.

1. Walker Hayes in the NY-LON Lounge Bar.

For those lucky enough to see anyone in the NY-LON Lounge Bar, you’ll know what an amazing, intimate venue it is. As a huge fan of Walker Hayes it was such a privilege to see him in such a setting and I only wish more gigs could be like that!

2. Lindsay Ell on the BBC Radio 2 stage.

The biggest disappointment for the initial C2C line up for me, was that Lindsay Ell only had a slot on the Spotlight Stage, when I feel that she is worthy of so much more. So, Continue reading “C2C Highlights”

‘Sweet Spot’ For Jeannine Barry

Just in time for her appearance at C2C 2018, the UK’s very own Jeannine Barry is set to release her new single, ‘Sweet Spot’ this Friday, March 9th.

The new single comes just over a year after the release of ‘Bittersweet’ which reached the Top 3 of the UK Country iTunes chart, a huge deal for any UK country artist. The singer-songwriter has been compared to Carrie Underwood, though her voice reminds me more of Faith Hill. Either way, not bad company to be in for Jeannine Barry.

Barry posted a sneak peak of ‘Sweet Spot’ on her twitter page. The song has a more upbeat, more established feel than her previous EP, with a sound that could put her in that Top 3 once again.

So if you’ve got a ‘Sweet Spot’ for Barry, then make sure to download the new single, Friday 9th March and catch one of her performances at C2C Festival in London next weekend. Barry will perform six times, on three different stages across the three days. Catch her stage times and locations below and support UK country acts at C2C 2018.

New Music Alert!

Starting the new year off right with some new music from Brothers Osborne! Many of us fans over in the UK were lucky enough to hear the new single, “Shoot Me Straight” before it’s official release when they performed it on tour with The Cadillac Three in November. It was obvious then it would be an instant hit and so exciting that new Brothers Osborne music is here so soon!

“Shoot Me Straight” is an impressive 7 minutes of everything we’ve hoped for and more. Don’t be put off by the length, every second is country gold.  The single is true to their rough around the edges, outlaw sound and reminiscent of their third single “Stay A Little Longer”, with more grit and a better guitar solo. Half of the single showcases TJ’s deep vocals and the other half is pure unapologetic guitar.

The new single is available to download and stream on Friday, January 5th.

Every Little Thing

The wait is over! Carly Pearce’s debut album is here and it is amazing. Such a bluesy feel to this album, I love it.

While women in country are having to contend against everyone for recognition, it’s exciting to see Pearce’s album being received so well on social media and by critics alike.  Some elements of Pearce’s album could be compared to Miranda Lambert or Maren Morris, like “Hide The Wine” and “Color”, but regardless of this, Pearce is smashing it all by herself, doing women in country proud.

While the album is true to her Kentucky roots, some songs ere more on the side of Continue readingEvery Little Thing

Kacey Musgraves Weds Ruston Kelly

Yesterday, Kacey Musgraves became Mrs Kelly 10 months after Ruston Kelly proposed on Christmas Eve. The couple both took to social media yesterday confirming it was their big day with Kelly saying he’d ‘finally found the real thing’. Too sweet!!!

While we’re impatiently respectfully waiting for wedding dress pictures – who isn’t dying to see what Musgraves chose – there have been a few snaps shared. Songwriter and good friend of the happy couple, Shane McAnally posted adorable pictures of his sweet babies at the wedding with his son as a ring bearer and daughter, a ‘glitter girl’. Chris Stapleton’s Big Announcement

Woke up to the best news this morning, during the first of his two sold out shows in Nashville this weekend, Stapleton shared the exciting news that From A Room: Volume 2 would be released on December 1st. For someone still playing Volume 1 on repeat, and choosing a new favourite every week this is HUGE news, I had no idea it would be so soon.

Let’s hope there will be a few pre-release tracks before December 1st, as I can barely wait.

Day of the Girl

While I understand that the issue of gender equality, and the need for an ‘International Day of the Girl Child’ is far bigger than country music, we have to start somewhere. Women in country have been a minority for a while now in terms of recognition. You could probably think of plenty of amazing female country artists… Continue reading “Day of the Girl “

The days are getting shorter, nights longer and it’s getting colder outside. I thought I’d share with you 10 songs that are perfect for autumn days and nights, for listening while getting cosy with a cup of tea or marshmallows round the bonfire with some good ol’ country music.
